Zonta Club of Makati and Environs hosts workshop to empower scholarship recipeints
To help university students search for jobs after graduation, the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, Philippines, held a Presence and Presentation Skills workshop and more.
Presence and Presentation Skills workshop
The club held a workshop about presence and presentation skills for Earl Wood Scholar Program (EWSP) students at the Polytechnic University of the Philipines completing their senior year in STEM courses.
The club invited Professor Maria Sylvia Pengson from St. Scholastics as the key presenter, with Club President Jeanne Abaya giving welcoming remarks and Club Board Director Marcy Kohchet-Chua, who offered her office premises as the venue.
Attendees included EWSP Committee Chair Suyin Liu, Martina Santos, Emmarie Luz Manuel, past Club President Maritess Pineda and EWSP founder Vicky Wieneke.
The students took home many points that would serve them well when they apply for jobs in the near future.
5th Annual Bravo Awards
On 27 July, the club partnered with Security Bank (SBC) to hold its 5th annual Bravo Empowered Women Awards to recognize Filipina game changers.
The award honors female trailblazers who have achieved success in their careers and personal advocacies and made a meaningful impact on their communities. The distinctions are given to Filipinas who drive social change in the country and actively work to uplift the lives of the less fortunate. The recipients all hail from different roots and beginnings but share the same commitment to service, paving the path toward economic and social progress.
This year, the club recognized:
- Celia Alicia Baltazar Elumba received recognition in the arts, culture, and heritage category.
- Lourdes Landayan Delos Reyes was honored as a business and entrepreneurship trailblazer.
- Jennie V. Jocson was recognized for education.
- Cheryll Ruth R. Soriano is a powerhouse for media and public affairs.
- Rebecca R. Angeles received recognition for her social services.
- Attorney Maria Caterina Cristina R. Lopa for sports.
- The stem category recognized Dr. Rose Marie O. Mendoza for her work.
- Mryna Dizon Segismundo was recognized for her work in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The awardees' contributions to society include rescuing women from the sex trade, empowering underprivileged girls through sports, advocating for just labor, gender awareness in education and safe technology for children, driving innovation in textiles, providing livelihood and faith opportunities for women, promoting Filipino cuisine globally and research in science and technology.
The board of judges was chaired by Past International President Olivia A. Ferry, with co-chair Ada L. Mabilangan and members: Angelina M. Lopez, Maritess M. Pineda, Aileen Zarate, Rachel Tan Renucci and Tanya Deakin and Mercedes L. Vargas, the president and executive director of the Lopez Foundation Group.
Mita Rufino, the club's endowment committee chair and a past area director, presented a special award to Filipinas, the national women's football team.
Tanya Deakin, SBC's first vice president and corporate communication and brand division head, represented the company's president and CEO, Sanjiv Vohra and gave the closing remarks.
Suyin Liu Lee and Rose Fres Fausto emceed the afternoon's program.
