In 2003, the Zonta Club of Kaohsiung Yuhsiuan established a scholarship through the local girls' senior high school. The District 31 club set out to help students whose families were struggling to pay tuition fees and continue to offer funds today.
The scholarship program not only helps girls continue their current education but also encourages them to pursue higher education.
Six students are given US$2,000 each semester. Over the sixteen years, the scholarship has been in place, the club has given US$30,000 to girls for their schooling.
The students who receive the scholarship give presentations during a special ceremony and share their stories of success. Five of the girls have become Young Women in Public Affairs Awardees in District 31.
