Zonta Club of Dhaka III Organizes Health Awareness Program

The Zonta Club of Dhaka III, District 25, organized a health awareness program in August at the Deep Shikha training center in Bangladesh. The program offered training and educational opportunities for women in their community.

The event offered skills training to women that focused on activities such as tailoring or embroidery. Education services were also provided and the women were offered one-on-one consultancy sessions by Dr. Shayela R Samad.

Samad is a general physician from the U.K. specializing in women's health. She conducted the program.

This service project aims to empower marginalized women by giving them free training to help them learn income-generating activities. At the end of the six-month-long training, the women are able to generate additional income for themselves and their families by offering tailoring services in their neighborhood or getting employed in the garment industry.

Members spoke about the different aspects of maintaining health and hygiene for themselves and their families and the women who participated in the program discussed the problems they face. Hygiene kits with a towel, soap, nail clippers, a comb and other toiletries were also distributed among the women.
