Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao empowers women entrepreneurs at DTI Summit 2024

On 11 July, the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, participated in the Department of Trade and Industry's 2nd Regional MSME Summit 2024, highlighting the pivotal role of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in empowering women economically and socially. Women entrepreneurs influence decisions within their families and play significant roles in their communities. Successful management of MSMEs ensures personal financial security and creates employment opportunities, thereby enhancing community welfare.

Considering climate change challenges, businesses must fortify themselves against natural disasters. Zonta’s 2024-2026 Biennial Goals emphasize climate justice and promoting women in decision-making roles. The club’s members, who are business owners in the region, actively participated in the summit to address topics such as disaster resilience, green initiatives and sustainable practices like zero waste and upcycling industries. These efforts align with the club’s longstanding partnership with DTI, aimed at improving the economic status of women in Cagayan Valley through thriving enterprises.

The club proudly recognizes Zontian Maria Sofia Gumiran-Narag, now serving as Regional Director of the Department of Trade and Industry, Region 02. Her leadership exemplifies Zonta's commitment to empowering women in business and community leadership roles.
