Zonta Club of Taipei II awards scholarships and more

The Zonta Club of Taipei II, Taiwan, held its 7th scholarship award ceremony on 16 December to recognize 16 university female students (front row) who have achieved distinguished academic performances and impressive volunteer work despite challenges in their own lives.

The selection process was made in collaboration with the Excellent Long-Established University Consortium of Taiwan (ELECT), which comprises 13 private universities in northern and central parts of the country. Faculty members from the universities and representatives from several private businesses also joined the ceremony, which took place at Taipei Medical University this year. The annual awards are made possible by the generous donation of US$100,000 from the late Mrs. Lu Soong You-Tze, a philanthropist and mother of Taipei II member Lu Kwang-Yen, to help female students from difficult families. Recipients of the scholarship are also the targets of recruitment of the Golden Z of New Dawn, which Taipei II sponsors.

Thirteen of this year’s awardees have joined the student club after interacting with current club members following the ceremony. Before the latest recruitment, 27 members, including four young men, were from 18 schools.

The club has also set aside an additional education fund to subsidize the special needs of young people in their pursuit of academic, leadership or professional achievement.
