Zonta Club of Hague I addresses menstrual poverty through film and more

The Zonta Club of the Hague I, Netherlands, built a better world for women and girls with multiple actions addressing menstrual poverty and ending child marriage.

Addressing menstrual poverty
For the third year, the club raised money for menstrual products with a movie night at the Paleiskerk The Hague. This year's proceeds were EUR 2.100, approximately US$2,230, thanks to ticket sales, sponsorships, donations and the sale of flowers.

With the donation, the club counters menstrual poverty in Haaglanden. The lack of money for menstrual products causes health problems, students falling behind at school and missed career opportunities.

The club has found a valued cooperation partner in Voedselbank, food bank, Haaglanden. Voedselbank Haaglanden has insight in the target group, the desired products, and is very experienced in the distribution of these products. They are also in talks with the municipality of The Hague regarding the fight against menstrual poverty.

Ending child marriage
After a successful handbag sale, the club organized a jewelry sale in The Hague for King's Day 2023. With the sale of donated necklaces, rings, brooches and watches, an amount of more than EUR 2,000, approximately US$2,124, was raised. The proceeds will go toward the Zonta Foundation for Women's international service project to end child marriage.

The club's stall on the vrijmarkt, flea market, at the Frederik Hendriklaan, the FRED, was a great success. The atmosphere was good, there were a lot of happy and satisfied buyers and there was interest in the topic of ending child marriage as well.
