Zonta Club of Colorado North Forty reports from District 12 conference

The Zonta Club of Colorado North Forty, USA, met with other Zontians in District 12 for the biennial district conference.

The momentous event began with a presentation from a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), followed by a group activity of assembling 50 beloved bundles for sexual assault survivors.

The district invited Paty Romero Lankao as its keynote speaker, who brought awareness of centering equity in urban energy transition technologies. Afterward, they held a successful business session that included a leadership panel with current and past Zonta International and Zonta Foundation for Women board members, including four area directors and club presidents, to discuss the rewards and challenges of stepping up to leadership. Members also had opportunities to participate in revolutionary community education tools, such as the In Her Shoes® series, designed for experiential learning about domestic violence. Participants moved, acted, thought and made choices as a person experiencing an abusive relationship. The district also offered Internal Communications and Building a Culture of Leadership Continuity workshops.

The club found the evening's star-studded "Out of this World" award ceremony magical. The evening included the pinning of four Amelia Earhart Fellows with their wings among the various awards, and each Fellow presented information about their fascinating research. Keynote speaker Past International President Sharon Langenbeck, Ph.D., presented highlights of her career as a rocket scientist. The conferences rounded out the following day with a discussion of the Zonta International Strategic Plan and workshops that included action for environment and gender equity, the USA Caucus and Fast Action Fridays.
