Zontians in Hsinchu unite for women's empowerment through art and reflection

On 8 June, members of the Zonta Clubs of Hsinchu and Miaoli, Taiwan, gathered for a joint meeting that blended art, advocacy and inspiration, featuring renowned Hakka musician, painter and poet Ms. Lo Si-Jung.

In a talk titled “Women’s Stories – A Speech on Empowering Women: Women, Land and Flight,” Ms. Lo captivated the audience with impromptu singing and a deeply introspective address. She challenged attendees with reflective questions such as, “Who am I?” and “Can I become more than who I am now?”—encouraging self-discovery, emotional honesty and personal empowerment.

Ms. Lo emphasized the process of shaping an "archetypal self," highlighting empowerment as a lifelong journey involving learning and collaboration. “Painting is a dialogue with oneself,” she said. “Use the self as a probe to explore life, the world and the universe.”

The event also featured artwork by women over 90, offering a moving testament to creativity across generations. Z Club youth members added a personal touch by crafting portrait pins for each guest club president.

In a symbolic act of solidarity, Zonta leaders from Hsinchu, Taipei and Miaoli—including Presidents Ada Lin, Chen Yue, Meng-Lin, and Bi-Yun—collaborated on an artwork titled “Zonta Says No to Violence against Women,” underscoring the collective spirit of empowerment.
