Zonta clubs in Ghana celebrate Rose Day and International Women's Day

To celebrate Rose Day and International Women's Day, Zonta clubs in Ghana organized a seminar about innovation and technology for gender equality for 120 women from the Agbogbloshie market, one of the largest markets in Accra.

Some of the market women are "Market Queens," women who oversee entire marketplaces, or "Queen Mothers," leaders of particular market sections such as the yam or tomato sections.

The clubs invited a resource person to advise the women on using their cell phones to manage their funds better and market their businesses using mobile banking options instead of carrying and holding large amounts of cash.

A health insurance team registered the women for national health insurance and renewed their expired insurance cards through an app, giving them access to health services and medication.

The clubs also provided some health advice about hypertension and diabetes with concomitant blood pressure screening for those who were interested in a referral to a local polyclinic.

To thank the Market Queens and Queen Mothers for their attendance, Zonta International Director Anne-Marie French Cudjoe and the club presidents gave everyone a yellow rose. They also received an apron and learned more about Zonta.
