Zonta District 19 Conference in Punta del Este

The Zonta International District 19 Conference, held from 10-12 October in Punta del Este, was a resounding success, gathering Zontians and dignitaries from across South America to reaffirm Zonta’s mission of advancing gender equality.

Chaired by District 19 Governor Berta Ruckert and hosted by the Zonta Club of Punta del Este–Maldonado, Uruguay, the conference welcomed distinguished guests including former Vice President of Uruguay Beatriz Argimón, the first woman to hold that position, alongside the Mayor of Punta del Este, members of the Maldonado Parliament, the local Chief of Police and Zontians from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

Argimón delivered an inspiring keynote address emphasizing her deep commitment to women’s equal rights and the fight against gender-based violence, commending Zonta International for its global impact in these areas.

Other highlights included an address by Zonta International Vice President Sandy Venn Brown, Governor Ruckert’s message of unity and progress, updates on the Zonta Foundation for Women and engaging committee presentations. The event also featured the District 19 elections and the emotional presentation of the Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award to Bruna Rodríguez, recognizing her outstanding achievements and potential as a future leader.

The conference and the participation of all attendees successfully strengthened Zonta’s visibility and influence across the region.
