Zonta Club of Perth Northern Suburbs Inc assembles birth kits

Devoted to providing safe and clean birthing kits, the Zonta Club of Perth Northern Suburbs Inc, Australia, held two workshops to assemble birth kits for women in developing countries who do not have access to safe and adequate childbirth services. Through a community newspaper ad, the club rallied more than 80 volunteers and their grandchildren to assemble 2,000 kits. These kits can potentially save the lives of 2,000 women.

A Rotary Club generously fronted the AUS $5,000 required to cover the cost of the kits following a Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA) presentation a few months prior. A second Rotary Club also made a small donation in the second workshop.

Since 2005, the club has assembled 18,000 kits for women to have a safe and clean birth, thus preventing pregnancy or childbirth-related complications.
