Zonta Club of Dhaka IV celebrates Zonta's 101st birthday

The Zonta Club of Dhaka IV, Bangladesh, celebrated Zonta International's 101st birthday on the lawn of club president Mahfuza Rashid. Eighteen members joined the event in person and 10 joined virtually. The program was well organized and safety measures were kept in place, maintaining social distance, ensuring the hygiene of food served, sanitization and managing safety.

The president opened the event by welcoming all Zontians and gave a brief background on Zonta International's history. She noted that women's rights are human rights, and that no woman should have to live in fear of violence. 

Past District 25 Governor Naheed Moyeen spoke a few words virtually, giving a brief description of the formation of Zonta and its ideals, when literally translated means "honest and trustworthy."

Munira Naim, District 25 nominating committee member, spoke about self-reliance of girls through education and empowerment through employment and decision-making. She also spoke about Every November, Every Member and lauded members for wearing masks and following COVID-19 protocols during the event.

Salma Masud, past club president, presented the Zonta pin to the 15 new members who were inducted into the club this biennium. The Zonta birthday cake was cut and enjoyed by members who were present.
