Zonta Club of Kathmandu establishes reading area for women inmates
On 24 February , the Zonta Club of Kathmandu, Nepal, led by advocacy committee, inaugurated the Bhadrakali Reading Area at the Women’s Detention Center in the District Police Range, Kathmandu. This initiative aims to provide a space for learning, inspiration and personal growth for women inmates.
Club President Bina Rana, and Advocacy Committee Chair Neelima Shrestha, officially handed over two book racks, 80 books, a television, a carpet and 10 cushions to the detention center. The collection includes inspirational, motivational and spiritual books designed to foster positive thinking and personal development.
The reading area will offer women inmates a constructive way to spend their time, encouraging continuous learning and emotional well-being. The handover ceremony took place in the presence of Superintendent of Police Mr. Apil Bohara, along with Zontians and Nepal Police.
The club expresses its sincere gratitude to Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Bishwo Adhikary for his support of this initiative, Mr. Apil for his warm welcome and Deputy Superintendent of Police Ms. Purnima Chand for her invaluable assistance in setting up the reading area. The club also extends appreciation to all officials whose cooperation made this project possible.
