Zonta Club of Hualien donates NT$320,000 to support social welfare organizations

Under the leadership of President Peng Liping, the Zonta Club of Hualien, Taiwan, recently awarded NT$100,000 in scholarships to 16 students. In addition, President Peng personally raised another NT$100,000, which was donated to the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) Hualien Service Center to support the "Persist in Dreams, Bravely Pursue Dreams" scholarship program. This initiative encourages underprivileged high school and college students from remote areas of Hualien and Taitung to pursue their educational goals, with the TFCF platform helping to identify and assist students most in need. President Peng emphasized that working for the common good and fostering shared prosperity remains the club’s goal in the coming years.

Former club president Xu Yuexiang also continued her long-standing support for the Hualien County Spinal Cord Injury Welfare Association. Many of the association’s members are individuals who became paralyzed due to accidents, sports injuries, workplace incidents, or other unfortunate circumstances. During a recent gathering, a fundraiser was launched, with former President Xu donating nearly NT$60,000 on the spot. With the enthusiastic participation of the Zonta members, a total of NT$200,000 was raised. The donation was accepted by Executive Director Lin Guotang on behalf of the association, and Association President Peng Yizhu tearfully expressed gratitude for the Zonta Club's heartfelt support. President Peng Liping remarked that giving to others, especially in times of greatest need, brings an indescribable sense of joy and fulfillment.

The club also extended support to the Taiwan Mennonite New Dawn Educare Center, a long-term partner organization. In April, the Center held a spring parent-child activity aimed at helping family members better understand the lives of individuals living at the Center and strengthening family bonds. Facing limited funding, the Center requested assistance from Zonta. In response, President Peng, with the full support of the club’s board, allocated NT$20,000 to sponsor the event. The initiative aims to foster stronger parent-child relationships, mobilize social resources to support families and promote greater social inclusion for people with disabilities.
