Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao launches Z club and earns recognition for community service

The Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, marked National Women’s Month with two significant milestones—launching a Z Club at Peñablanca East National High School (PENHS) and receiving recognition at the 2024 Panagyaman Awards for its outstanding community service.

On 7 March, the club spearheaded EmpowerHER: Establishing Z Club & Orientation on the Safe Spaces Act at PENHS, engaging 226 junior high school students in discussions on Republic Act 11313 (Safe Spaces Act). Attorney Cecilia M. Lazaro led the orientation, educating students on their rights and responsibilities in fostering a harassment-free school environment.

Club President Josefina Sedano delivered an inspirational message, encouraging students to advocate for gender equality and ensure that schools remain safe spaces for all. A key highlight of the event was the formation of the Z Club at PENHS, where newly elected student leaders pledged to champion women’s empowerment and student leadership. In her closing remarks, Club Vice President Attorney Mitoy Cayosa emphasized the role of youth in creating an inclusive and respectful community.

Continuing its commitment to service and advocacy, the club was honored at the 2024 Panagyaman Awards, organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on 10 March, in Tuguegarao City. The award was received by President Josefina Sedano, along with Past President Marrieta Reyes and Ways and Means Committee Chair Maybelle Liban.

The club was recognized for its unwavering support to the residents of the DSWD’s Reception and Study Center for Children and the Regional Haven, reflecting the club’s dedication to community care and service.
