Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao hosts webinar on journalism and PR for advocacy

On 5 August, the Press Relations (PR) Committee of the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, conducted an insightful webinar on basic journalism and the Zonta International writing style. The session aimed to empower Zontians to craft compelling content that effectively raises awareness about women's rights and related issues.

“Our shared commitment to advancing the status of women worldwide is not just reflected in our actions, but also in the stories we tell, the articles we write and the messages we convey,” said Area 4 director Racquel Reyes-Aglaua during her opening remarks. She states that as Zontians, our words are our tools, and through them, we advocate for gender equality, empower women and make a lasting impact on society. The webinar featured Zontians Angely L. Mercado, club secretary for recording and Helga Anne Treasure Ayuyang, chair of the club PR committee, who discussed an overview of journalism fundamentals and the Zonta PR and writing style, respectively.

Key takeaways from the session included the importance of brevity in news articles and the necessity of balanced, objective and fair reporting. The speakers underscored that the PR Committee plays a vital role in amplifying the club’s advocacies by crafting narratives that enhance audience reach and awareness. Recognizing the pivotal role of press relations in advancing the club's mission to combat gender-based violence and discrimination, a follow-up webinar is scheduled. This upcoming session will focus on content creation, particularly on the tools and techniques for effective engagement across various social media platforms.
