Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao honors women and supports female detainees

In celebration of Zonta Rose Day and International Women’s Day, the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, recognized three exceptional women for their outstanding contributions to the community while also extending material support to female detainees at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Female Dormitory.

On 8 March, the club honored Eloisa M. Mabborrang, Principal of Linao National High School; Maryan C. Diaros, Education Program Supervisor from DepEd Region 2; and Lina Pobre, owner of Kimberlin Enterprises, for their dedication to education, business and women’s empowerment. The recognition, led by Club President Josefina Sedano and Vice President Mitoy Cayosa, highlighted the honorees’ impact in uplifting women and their communities.

“Your inspiring stories and achievements serve as a source of motivation for fellow advocates and community members,” President Sedano said during the ceremony. The event also provided an opportunity for networking and collaboration, strengthening efforts toward a more inclusive and empowered society.

Continuing its advocacy for women’s empowerment, the club donated four sacks of used clothes, newspapers and paper bags to the BJMP Female Dormitory on 9 March. The materials will support income-generating projects for female detainees, including rug-making and crafting mini-items from recycled materials.

This marks the second time the club has extended such support to the facility, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable recycling and providing opportunities for women detainees to develop skills for reintegration into society.
