Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao calls for gender equality and inclusion
Attorney Maria Milagros N. Fernan-Cayosa, Vice President and Advocacy Committee Chair of the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, delivered a compelling message on gender equality and inclusivity at the launch of the 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration on 3 March at the Tuguegarao Component City Police Station.
As the guest speaker, Attorney Fernan-Cayosa emphasized the importance of this year’s theme, “WE (Women Empowerment) for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” which will guide the campaign until 2028. She also highlighted the sub-theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” stressing that national progress is closely tied to the empowerment of women across all sectors.
In her address, she clarified that gender equality does not diminish the rights of men but ensures that all individuals—regardless of gender, age or background—have equal opportunities and protections. She further defined an inclusive society as one that “overrides differences of race, gender, class and geography,” fostering equal opportunities and safeguarding human rights.
Beyond her keynote speech, Fernan-Cayosa led an in-depth discussion on the Magna Carta of Women, outlining its provisions and implications for law enforcement and the broader community. This session aimed to enhance awareness of legal frameworks that protect women’s rights and promote gender-responsive governance.
With law enforcement agencies actively participating in the National Women’s Month Celebration, Fernan-Cayosa’s message served as a powerful call to action, urging institutions and individuals to champion gender equality and build a truly inclusive society.
