Zonta Club of Accra hosts Women’s Day event to #AccelerateAction
The Zonta Club of Accra, Ghana, celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March with an uplifting event at Coconut Grove Hotel that brought together women from across sectors to inspire, connect and strengthen Zonta’s mission to build a better world for women and girls.
The event was graced by Zonta International Director Margaret Akufio-Sowah and District 18 Area 2 Director Lydia Dsane-Selby, and featured a keynote address from gender and inclusion specialist Ms. Dinah Adiko. Her message set the tone for the day, calling on women to “be bold in embracing leadership, advocacy and community service,” emphasizing that “every woman has the power to contribute to advancing women’s rights.” Dinah, inspired by the gathering, expressed interest in joining Zonta.
With the theme centered on empowerment, the event included a membership drive and a “Pinning of Roses” ceremony, symbolizing unity, growth and commitment to the Zonta cause. Each member was encouraged to bring at least one prospective member, resulting in a dynamic and diverse gathering of inspired women.
Margaret spoke of the broader impact of the event, noting, “Today’s gathering is a testament to our commitment to uplifting women and making meaningful change. Through collaboration and action, we can build a more equitable world.”
Reinforcing the day’s message, Lydia highlighted the vibrant energy in the room: “The energy and passion here today are undeniable. Together, we can accelerate action toward gender equality. This is how we grow—not just as an organization, but as a movement.”
The club continues to position itself as a hub of leadership, service and advocacy. Through its events and outreach, the club remains committed to empowering women and expanding Zonta’s reach in the region—one member, one voice and one community at a time.
