Zonta Breast Care Cushion District Project in Australia

In Australia, breast cancer impacts 1 in 7 women. With a mission to enhance women’s well-being, the Breast Care Cushion project offers a practical gift of support and comfort during the post-operative phase of breast cancer surgery. Since 2001, this initiative has garnered endorsement as a service project across all three Zonta districts in Australia.

The Zonta Breast Care Cushion, uniquely designed in a crescent shape, facilitates comfortable sitting, sleeping and resting for patients, reducing discomfort from bumps and the strain of seat belts.

Zonta clubs play a vital role in supplying these cushions to hospitals for free distribution by Breast Care Nurses. Volunteers, both members and non-members, contribute their time and skills to sew these cushions.

This project yields several key benefits:

  • Significantly improves the quality of life for many women
  • Fosters a hands-on approach, promoting the spirit of Zonta
  • Engages members regardless of their sewing proficiency
  • Develops relationships with other communities
  • Offers promotional opportunities

For those interested in learning more, a Breast Care Cushion Display will be featured at the Brisbane Convention in the Marketplace. Coordinators from Districts 22, 23 and 24 will be present to address questions. Additionally, clubs interested in adopting this project can obtain a free pattern, with cushions and unfilled casing available for purchase.
