Zonta Club of Dresden addresses women's issues during the pandemic

The Zonta Club of Dresden, Germany, donated EUR 500 each to the Zonta Clubs of Bombay I and Bombay III, on 2 June. The donation was in support of humanitarian projects for health and early marriage issues faced by women during the pandemic. Unfortunately, the donation could not be received by the club since they did not qualify to receive foreign aid, as per the existing regulations.

After learning this news, the club decided to team up with an NGO, Light of Life Trust (LoL).  With the help of the club’s donation, LoL carried out the project “Jagruti” to provide COVID-19 relief and support in Kushiwali Wadi, a tribal hamlet in Karjat Taluka of Maharashtra. The LoL volunteers instructed girls and women about safety measures during the pandemic. They also explained the importance of washing hands with soap, using masks and social distancing. Additional infographic charts were put up in the regional language, Marathi. There was shield kit distribution sanitary and health guard kit distribution and a Jagrut Arogya Mitra — health awareness — training.

The club’s president, members and District 25 Governor Ztn Erric Elavia participated virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. The donated money was successfully used for the intended social cause of supporting Zonta’s mission.
