Zonta Club of Makati and Environs strengthens youth leadership

The Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, Philippines, continued its commitment to developing young leaders by hosting two milestone events: the induction of the Golden Z Club at St. Scholastica’s College Manila and the chartering of the Golden Z Club at the University of Makati.

On 31 January, club officers visited St. Scholastica’s College Manila to formally induct the officers, directors and members of the school’s Golden Z Club.

Club President-Elect Marcy Kohchet-Chua opened the program with an overview of Zonta International and its global mission to build a better world for women and girls. ZCME President Joanne Zapanta-Andrada highlighted the strong alignment between the values of St. Scholastica’s College and Zonta, noting that this shared foundation equips Golden Z members to become compassionate and effective leaders and advocates for positive change.

Jocel Labrador, co-chair of the Z and Golden Z Club Committee, also attended the event. Student Coordinator Sharon Joy Castronero delivered an inspiring message on servant leadership, reminding students that leadership is a calling entrusted to those willing to serve.

On 11 February , the Golden Z Club of the University of Makati was formally chartered during a ceremony held at Multimedia Room 901 under the sponsorship of the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs.

Maritoni Tordesillas, chair of the Z and Golden Z Club Committee, opened the ceremony with an overview of Zonta International and the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs Foundation Inc., emphasizing Zonta’s global presence in 61 countries with more than 31,000 members working to build a better world for women and girls.

Club President Joanne Zapanta-Andrada delivered remarks underscoring the alignment between the University of Makati’s mission and Zonta’s advocacy, particularly in advancing gender equality, leadership development, mentorship and service aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The club noted that both the president and vice president are gentlemen, reflecting Zonta’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive leadership.

The ceremony was coordinated by Jocel Labrador, Club Golden Z and Z Club co-chair. The event concluded with remarks from Michael Robert Alviar, former Zonta Club of EDSA member and adviser to the Golden Z Club of the University of Makati, who encouraged members to lead with integrity, compassion and dedication to service.
