Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao and CSU Andrews GOLDS partner for women’s health awareness

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, partnered with the Cagayan State University - Andrews Campus Guild of Limitless and Driven Science Scholars (GOLDS) to raise awareness about women’s health, empowerment and menstrual hygiene.

The initiative, held under the banner of the “ISKOmmunity PADtry” campaign, focused on addressing reproductive health issues affecting young women, particularly in underserved communities. The program featured an educational session led by Dr. Mildred Ferrer Banatao, who spoke on reproductive health, family planning and the consequences of early teenage pregnancy. Emphasizing the importance of comprehensive sex education and maternal care, the session highlighted reproductive rights and access to healthcare as essential for empowering young women.

Teenage pregnancy—a continuing concern in the Philippines—was tackled through discussions on its biological, social and cultural causes. Speakers urged the need for informed decision-making and access to education and support services so young women can reach their full potential.

In addition to education, the initiative extended direct support through a menstrual hygiene drive. The club distributed 134 hygiene kits, including toothbrushes donated by Pharmacare, to 298 students from Grades 9 to 12 at Don Severino Pagalilauan High School in Callao, Peñablanca. Students also received training on proper menstrual hygiene practices to prevent infections and promote overall well-being.

The partnership exemplifies the impact of collective action in advancing gender equality. By combining education, advocacy and direct assistance, the club and CSU Andrews GOLDS are helping ensure that young women are equipped with the knowledge and resources to take charge of their health and future.

As Women’s Month highlights the ongoing push for equality and empowerment, this campaign serves as a call to action to prioritize women’s health, dignity, and opportunity—because a better world for women and girls is a better world for all.
