Women in Flight
The Zonta Club of Kankakee, USA, hosted "Women in Flight" on Amelia Earhart Day, a free two-hour community event held at the Kankakee County Museum.
The event featured a special Amelia Earhart exhibit that included artifacts from Zonta International, books and items from a personal collection and select pieces from the museum’s own collection. Guests were welcomed with cookies and coffee.
The program included a presentation highlighting the history of Zonta, the Zonta Club of Kankakee’s role in the community, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship and the historic connection between Amelia Earhart and Zonta, including her stop in Kankakee. Two local female pilots also shared their personal journeys and experiences in aviation, offering insight into the challenges and rewards of being women pilots.
Nine female pilots attended the event, alongside community members, creating an inspiring space for connection and conversation. At least six women expressed interest in learning more about Zonta and how to become involved with the club, reflecting the event’s success in engaging and inspiring new voices.
