Zonta Club of Mandaluyong San Juan II supports women through sustainable service project
Since 2010, the Zonta Club of Mandaluyong San Juan II, Philippines, has sustained its service project to assist women deprived of liberty at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) by creating livelihood opportunities that aid their reformation and support their families.
One inspiring story is that of “Ate B.,” a 49-year-old who has been at CIW since the age of 27 due to a drug-related case. Despite her circumstances, she has raised four children by crafting customized bags while in prison. Two of her children have already graduated from college and now work abroad, while the other two are still pursuing their studies.
Her story reflects the resilience of many women at CIW who, even while serving their sentences, continue to support their families and ensure their children’s education.
Through the purchase of the club’s customized charity bags, the public can directly support these women, providing them with hope, dignity and a path toward becoming better individuals.
