Supporting women through livelihood training
The Zonta Club of Davao City II, Philippines, recently conducted three hands-on skills training sessions for women at the Archdiocesan Nourishment Center (ANC), aiming to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities and practical knowledge.
A rug-making tutorial was launched to help women learn a skill they can turn into a home-based business or enjoy as a productive hobby. The club donated five rug pattern frames and three sacks of cloth materials to help participants begin their work and potentially earn additional income from home.
A six-day training in Swedish massage—one of the most popular types of therapeutic massage—was offered free of charge, thanks to the sponsorship of Zontian Ruth. Participants were taught techniques such as long strokes, rubbing, kneading and tapping to help reduce stress and muscle pain. The training also opened potential pathways for extra income or use as a home remedy for family care.
Additionally, women participating in the ANC program also received training in basic hair cutting techniques, particularly on layering. To make the session even more impactful, Zontian Faustell Myenri celebrated her birthday by donating hair cutting tools to all the trainees, making the occasion personal and meaningful.
