District 31 Area 1 meeting shines with Rose Day spirit
The 2025 Zonta International District 31 Area 1 Meeting, hosted by the Zonta Club of Taipei Rainbow, Taiwan, was a resounding success. Governor Diana Cheng, Area 1 Director Shiow-Hua Chiou and District Secretary Peyton Kim attended the monthly meeting and later joined President Helen Huang and fellow Zontians for a celebratory banquet on 16 April.
The Area 1 Meeting, held on 8 March, featured several key highlights:
- Preparatory Meetings: One pre-meeting and three preparatory meetings were held to ensure strong consensus and successful execution.
- Opening Ceremony: The event opened with a special performance by the Taoyuan Saxophone Orchestra.
- Focus Interview: Chaired by Ma Wei Ling, Chair of the Zonta Spirit Committee; Yang Guiying, Chair of the Women's Rights Initiative Committee; and District Secretary and Webmaster Peyton Kim, the session conveyed Zonta knowledge and spirit to 150 attendees.
- Rose Day Special Lectures: Wang Mingxia, a director, screenwriter and producer nominated for the 2014 Golden Bell Award, presented "Listen to Her: A Brief History of Their Films." Luo Sirong, an award-winning Hakka singer, painter and bard, spoke on "Wandering on the Map of Women’s Songs," offering an inspiring artistic perspective.
- Rose Day Fundraising: The fundraising efforts, including a rose painting auction by professional artist Chiu Xiuxia, online product sales and fresh rose sales, raised a total of 185,838 NTD (approximately US$5,700) to support the Zonta Foundation for Women’s 40th Anniversary.
- District Affairs Report: Governor Diana Cheng shared the 2024–2026 biennial plan, updates on International Headquarters rules, and upcoming conference information. Foundation Ambassador Zheng Guiying reported on fundraising goals and encouraged clubs to contribute enthusiastically.
- Club Highlights: Presidents from all 14 Area 1 clubs presented their most notable service activities and achievements, fostering mutual learning and inspiration among attendees.
