The Zonta Club of Riverside celebrates 96 Years

The Zonta Club of Riverside, USA, celebrated its 96th anniversary with a lively Bunco event on 7 February at the Arlington Library, bringing together members, supporters and community guests for an evening of fun and philanthropy.

Club President Debbie Waltzer welcomed attendees and introduced the Zonta International District 9 governor, while highlighting the club’s 96-year history and its ongoing local initiatives.

A key focus of the event was the club’s partnership with Riverside Community College. The Basic Needs Resource Center at RCC supports students by providing essential services and resources to help them succeed academically. A short video presentation illustrated the center’s impact and emphasized the importance of supporting students facing financial and personal challenges.

District 9 Governor Gloria, also a member of the Zonta Club of Burbank, shared insights into Zonta International’s global mission. She highlighted the organization’s service projects and education programs, which aim to create life-changing opportunities for women and girls and advance gender equality worldwide. She also spoke about advocacy efforts addressing issues such as gender-based violence, equal pay and closing the gender gap in male-dominated fields.

The event included a special drawing for guests who donated items to support the club’s local project, as well as an opportunity drawing to raise additional funds.

The highlight of the evening was the Bunco game itself, as participants gathered around tables, laughing and cheering while rolling dice. Guests enjoyed popcorn and cupcakes as calls of “Bunco!” echoed throughout the room, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.

The club will host its next event on 8 March to install their newest members. Guest speaker Carrie Madrid of The Care Project Inc. will share her story as a breast cancer survivor and discuss her work supporting others affected.
