Zonta Club of Laguna: Relief in Action
In the wake of severe flooding and displacement caused by recent typhoons, the Zonta Club of Laguna, Philippines, in partnership with the Congressional Office of Congresswoman Ann Matibag and key civic groups, mobilized immediate relief operations across multiple barangays.
On 21 July, 36 families from Barangay Sampaguita, Barangay Riverside and Barangay San Antonio received cash assistance and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) relief packs. The support helped families begin recovery from the storm’s devastation.
Relief efforts intensified two days later, with collaborative missions reaching families in several evacuation centers. At the Nueva Covered Court, 79 families received DSWD relief goods, hot servings of lugaw and paracetamol to address rising cases of fever and colds among children. That same day, 46 families at the San Roque Elementary School evacuation site were assisted with relief packs, meals and medicine, highlighting the importance of both physical aid and community care.
On 25 July, 40 families displaced from Barangay GSIS and temporarily housed at Sampaguita Elementary School were provided DSWD relief packs and hot meals. Additional support reached seven families from Barangay Bayan Bayanan, underscoring that no community is too small to be included in the humanitarian response.
The largest operation was carried out in Barangay Cuyab, where 141 families—592 individuals—received essential supplies and meals. The scale of this mission demonstrated the impact of organized, community-driven action during times of crisis.
These coordinated relief efforts were made possible through the joint commitment of the Zonta Club of Laguna, JCI Damas De San Pedro, Let Love Thrive, Tau Gamma Phi and the Congressional Office of Congresswoman Ann Matibag. Beyond the distribution of goods, the initiatives embodied compassion, bayanihan and an unwavering promise to protect vulnerable families, particularly women and children.
