Lifting Others in Service Awards Luncheon
The Zonta Club of Parker County, USA, introduced a new community initiative this year by presenting Service Awards to women in Parker County who go above and beyond in serving others.
The awards were created in memory of beloved club member Debra Smith, who passed away in May 2025. The inaugural recipients were Police Officer Carey Ramirez and Megan Hendricks.
Officer Ramirez was recognized for her compassion and dedication to the community. According to the club, she has been acknowledged by her department for going above and beyond in her duties by offering encouragement and friendship to individuals in need, whether responding to domestic calls or conducting welfare checks. Several of her department superiors attended the ceremony as she received the Debbie Award.
Megan Hendricks was honored for her leadership within the local business community. Recognizing a need for young professionals to have a safe and supportive environment to exchange ideas and business strategies while serving the community, she helped establish the Young Professionals Network (YPN). The organization has grown significantly and supports the development of young business leaders.
Among YPN’s initiatives is an annual Christmas in July Bash held at a local water park, where community members are invited to attend free of charge while contributing gift cards and donations to provide Christmas gifts for teens in foster care. The effort focuses on supporting teenagers, who are often overlooked during holiday giving campaigns.
The club’s service committee organized the event and sold T-shirts to raise funds for the awards. Members said they enjoyed planning and coordinating the initiative in honor of community service and leadership.
