Zonta Club of Alytus hosts “Ode to Life” paper-cutting exhibition
The Zonta Club of Alytus, Lithuania, in partnership with Member of the Seimas Daiva Ulbinaitė, hosted the exhibition “Ode to Life” by Alytus-based paper-cutting artist Irena Mažeikienė at the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania on 8 December.
The exhibition, which will run through 23 December, features Mažeikienė’s intricately detailed paper cuttings that portray the human journey from earliest beginnings to old age. The collection has been showcased throughout Alytus, other Lithuanian cities and the capital, admired for its warmth, delicacy and remarkable craftsmanship.
MP Ulbinaitė, who first encountered the exhibition during the 30th anniversary celebration of the Zonta Club, emphasized its emotional and artistic impact. “Everyone who sees ‘Ode to Life’ at the Seimas will pause,” she said, noting the ability to inspire reflection through art. “When I saw this exhibition a month ago in Alytus, I did not hesitate for a moment—it must be seen by everyone.”
The opening event was hosted by Eglė Malinauskienė, who, together with her husband Nerijus Malinauskas, performed musical pieces for attendees. Adding to the significance of the occasion, the exhibit debuted on the birthday of Mažeikienė’s daughter, Elvina Narauskienė, a member of the Zonta Club.
The Zonta Club of Alytus highlighted the exhibition as an opportunity to celebrate local artistry, elevate women's contributions to culture and strengthen community engagement through meaningful partnerships.
