New Zonta club in Taitung launched to promote gender equality and community service
The Zonta Club of Taitung, Taiwan, held its charter ceremony on 29 August at the Naruwan Hotel, marking a significant expansion of Zonta’s mission in eastern Taiwan. The new club embraces the vision of “a world without violence, where equality and mutual prosperity prevail.”
Distinguished guests included Taitung County Council Speaker Wu Xiuhua, Zonta International District 31 Governor Diana Cheng, District Secretary Peyton Kim, Lieutenant Governor Hui-Ju Nieh, Area 1 Director Shiow-Hua Chiou, who also chaired the club’s preparatory committee, Area 2 Director Yen Ching-Hui, Foundation Ambassador Heidi Cheng and nearly 90 attendees.
The ceremony began with the ringing of the bell and the club anthem led by Charter President Lin Yufeng, symbolizing Zonta’s official establishment in Taitung. Governor Cheng presented the club’s banner and gavel, formally entrusting the new members with their responsibilities. Members then took their oath to actively advance Zonta’s mission of empowering women and girls.
The charter included a donation to the Pro Elderly Care Home in Taitung County. The contribution highlighted the club’s dual commitment to gender equality and support for vulnerable communities, embodying the spirit of “United in Service, Strengthened by Commitment.”
