Men of Courage event sparks powerful call to action
The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau, MO, USA, witnessed overwhelming community support at the Men of Courage event, with a remarkable 2,382 individuals in attendance. The amount of support reflects a growing momentum in the regional movement to empower men to lead with integrity, empathy and purpose to end sexual violence.
This year’s event brought together students and community members from across the region, including Notre Dame High School, Cape Central High School, Saxony Lutheran High School, SEMO Greek Life and SEMO Athletics as well as attendees of the Men’s Community Breakfast and local mental health professionals.
The event featured inspirational speakers, Obbie West, an internationally acclaimed advocate for change who shared real-life stories, and actionable tools designed to engage to both men and women in meaningful discussions around character, mental health and leadership. The goal was not just to start conversations, but to spark change.
“The energy in each session room was powerful,” said event co-leader Kevin Greaser. “Seeing over 2,000 high school students, college, athletics, fraternity and sorority members mental health professions and community leaders come together to talk about what it truly means to be courageous was inspiring. We’re creating a ripple effect that we hope will extend far beyond this one day.”
As the community continues to rally behind the Men of Courage mission, the success of this event marks a pivotal moment for expanding outreach, deepening engagement and creating lasting cultural impact across Southeast Missouri and beyond.
