Zonta Club of Jelgava advanced gender equality through media literacy and community engagement
The Zonta Club of Jelgava is set to unveil the results of its MEDEA Project during a special seminar titled “Developing Media Literacy to Debunk Gender-Related Media Manipulation and Fake News” on 17 June, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. (EET), held both online via Zoom and in person at the Jelgava Central Library.
The MEDEA Project is a research and education initiative focused on strengthening critical thinking and media literacy, with particular attention to how gender-related misinformation and fake news influence public perception. The 2025 campaign has been especially active in investigating the ways media manipulation perpetuates harmful gender stereotypes and undermines equality.
The seminar will highlight key findings from the project and offer strategies to combat misinformation, encourage media responsibility and foster a more informed and equitable society.
Participants are invited to register online here and view the conference program here.
On 31 May, Zonta representatives from Jelgava actively participated in “Andelburzins,” a community event that promotes the reuse, sale and exchange of goods. The vibrant gathering brought residents together to give items a second life—highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of sustainable living.
By encouraging reuse and reducing waste, the club reinforced the vital connection between environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment, noting that ecological and social justice go hand in hand. The club notes that sustainability is not just about the planet—it’s about people. They stand by the belief that empowering women globally also means protecting the environments they live and lead in.
