Zonta District 29 Conference in Essen highlights commitment to change

More than 200 Zontians gathered at the historic Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex for the District 29 Conference, united under the motto “Making Change Happen.” The event brought together members from across the district to reflect on their biennium goals, exchange ideas and collaborate on innovative approaches to Zonta’s mission.

Participants engaged in a wide range of discussions on current and future priorities, with the conference offering dedicated spaces and formats to foster meaningful interaction. Two expert-led World Cafés and several themed discussion corners, including one featuring Zonta International Director Ela Pandya of the Zonta Club of Portville, USA—encouraged members to think creatively and explore new strategies to advance gender equality.

Keynote speakers and a panel discussion featuring former award recipients added depth to the program, while conversations with younger Zontians highlighted intergenerational solidarity and the importance of amplifying diverse voices. These exchanges underscored how Zonta’s international awards and youth programs continue to serve as valuable bridges across generations and cultures.

The conference embodied the Zonta spirit through music as well, featuring performances by female musicians with ties to Zonta. Organizers emphasized that the event’s success was the result of dedicated teamwork across clubs, the District 29 board and numerous volunteers who coordinated sessions, presentations and collaborative spaces.

District leaders expressed deep appreciation to Zonta International Director Ela Pandya for her participation throughout the conference, as well as to the keynote speakers, panelists and all who helped bring the event to life. Together, they reaffirmed that meaningful change is possible when Zontians unite with purpose.
