Zonta Club of Laguna leads community initiatives supporting seniors and women in vulnerable sectors
The Zonta Club of Laguna, Philippines, carried out a series of community initiatives aimed at uplifting senior citizens and supporting women in vulnerable situations through outreach, donations and health services.
The club partnered with the MOB Foundation for its Pamaskong Handog, a Christmas outreach that benefited 300 senior citizens.
The celebration featured music, games and gift-giving, creating a festive and meaningful experience for attendees. As part of the initiative, the club distributed 300 bags of 5-kilogram rice, along with cash assistance and medicines, providing essential support and relief to beneficiaries.
Organizers said the activity reflected the club’s commitment to community service, emphasizing compassion, unity and the importance of giving back, particularly to those who have contributed to their communities over the years.
In another initiative, the Zonta Club of Laguna, together with the Zonta e-Club of Metro Laguna, visited the Correctional Institution for Women.
The clubs donated beauty products and tools to a newly renovated salon within the facility, supporting opportunities for self-care and personal development among inmates.
Members also spent time with inmates, including mothers caring for newborns, offering encouragement and support. In addition, the clubs purchased handmade bags and paintings created by the inmates, helping them generate income and showcase their skills.
Organizers noted that the initiative underscores Zonta’s commitment to promoting dignity and empowerment for all women, including those in correctional facilities.
The club also extended support to female inmates at the San Pedro City Jail through a cervical cancer vaccination program.
A total of 118 vaccines were donated through the efforts of Ann Matibag and administered, providing essential protection for women with limited access to health care services.
Organizers emphasized that the initiative reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that all women, regardless of their circumstances, have access to health, dignity and care.
