Zonta Club of Accra supports girls’ education in celebration of International Menstrual Hygiene Day
On 28 May 2025, in celebration of International Menstrual Day, the Zonta Club of Accra, Ghana, reaffirmed its commitment to female education and well-being by providing critical support to students at Dome Anglican 2 & 4 Basic Schools in the Ga East Municipal District.
The club distributed a three-month supply of sanitary pads to female students from Class Six to Junior High School Three, directly addressing period poverty—a major factor contributing to school absenteeism among girls. Additionally, shoes were donated to both female and male students.
This initiative aims to remove barriers to consistent school attendance for girls, helping them focus on their academic progress without the disruption of menstrual challenges. The effort aligns with Zonta’s mission to empower women and girls through education and opportunity, supporting their growth and future success.
The program has already shown positive outcomes within the community, contributing to improved attendance and noting no recorded pregnancies among beneficiaries over the past two years. The club continues to deliver meaningful impact by addressing immediate needs and fostering long-term educational advancement for girls.
