In the news: Zonta Club of Hilo gives $20,000 in scholarships & awards for women
The Zonta Club of Hilo is thrilled to award $20,000 in scholarships to 10 deserving women for 2026,” said club president Laurie Higashi. “Chartered in 1950, our club has made a difference on Hawai‘i Island for 76 years.”
Barbra An Pleadwell Scholarships totaling $5,000 were given to Fiona Eddy and Naneaikealaula Thomas.
Women’s Nursing Degree Scholarships totaling $9,000 were given to University of Hawai‘i at Hilo students Luche Ganot and Shyla Williams and Hawai‘i Community College students Leilihaupuaikawai Jung, Gabriella Ramos, and Kaylee Stingel.
Young Woman in Leadership Awards totaling $6,000 were given to Princess Kaitlyn Mangoba, Zoe Russo, and Teija Wada. Russo has been advanced from the club level to compete for additional awards at the district and international levels of Zonta.
