Zonta Club of Hualien shines at District 31 Conference and celebrates International Day of the Girl

The Zonta Club of Hualien, Taiwan, shone during the District 31 Annual Meeting, earning top honors in both donations and membership growth.

The club ranked first place in donations for Zonta International’s 106th anniversary campaign and also achieved first place in external member recruitment across all district branches. Zonta International President-Elect Fernanda Gallo Freschi, who attended the meeting, praised the club’s dedication and encouraged all branches to continue welcoming new members to strengthen Zonta’s global network.

Members of the Hualien Club enthusiastically contributed a total of US$8,000 (NT$248,000) to commemorate the organization’s 106th anniversary. Club President Liping Peng expressed deep gratitude for the members’ generosity and active participation.

In appreciation, Club President Peng presented Zonta rose brooches from the international headquarters to those who took part in the campaign, thanking them for their commitment and kindness in advancing Zonta’s mission to empower women and girls worldwide.

Beyond their conference success, the club also promoted gender equality through art and performance. Recently, the club president joined talented participants from across Hualien, including youth and senior citizens, in presenting an action drama that combined music and dance from around the world. The performance celebrated women breaking gender stereotypes and aimed to raise awareness and inspire change in perceptions of girls.

Among the performers were 18 energetic retirees from the Hualien County Senior Citizens Association’s fitness class, affectionately called the “big sisters,” who captivated audiences with their spirited dance routines. President Peng also performed alongside Vice President Yumei and member Jujun, reflecting the club’s strong sense of community and leadership by example.

The Zonta Club of Hualien continues to support organizations in need, awarding annual scholarships to high school and vocational students and serving as benefactors to Taiwan’s young medal-winning athletes. Club President Peng shared her joy and gratitude for everyone’s involvement in the production, noting that the performance moved the audience deeply.
