High tea and cushion stuffing

The Zonta Club of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, celebrated the end of the year with a high tea event attended by members and friends of the club. Area 2 Director Nicola Schreurs was also present, adding to the spirit of fellowship and reflection.

The gathering served as more than just a social occasion—it highlighted one of the club’s meaningful service traditions. Each year, club members create over 120 cushions that are donated to the local hospital and cancer society. These cushions are gifted to individuals who have undergone mastectomies to provide comfort and support during recovery.

Longtime member Jennifer Hartley, who has been with the club for 42.5 years, sews the cushion covers, while fellow members come together to stuff and seal them across several sessions.

This initiative not only offers a hands-on way to give back to the community but also serves as a welcoming introduction for potential members to learn about Zonta’s mission and camaraderie.
