Zonta Club of Aparri promotes environmental stewardship and maternal health

The Zonta Club of Aparri, Philippines, continued its commitment to service through two recent initiatives focused on environmental sustainability and maternal health.

On 24 July, members joined the local government of Buguey for “Greening Sabangan: Tree Growing for Historical Eco-Tourism,” part of the 4th Buguey Malaga and Guraman Festival. Held at Sabangan, Minanga Este, Buguey, the event highlighted the ecological and cultural value of the coastal landmark where the Babuyan Channel and Buguey River meet.

Zontians planted Bitoon trees, a native species, as a symbol of heritage preservation and environmental stewardship. The effort sought to raise awareness of the importance of protecting local heritage sites while contributing to sustainability goals.

Five days later, the club partnered with the Aparri Municipal Health Office to celebrate Nutrition Month at the Aparri Gymnasium. With the theme “Panangtaripatu iti Agina,” the program supported expectant mothers from Barangays Centro and Punta by distributing vitamins and baby essentials.

The event also featured a mental health talk by Nurse Joy Alistair Sembrano, emphasizing the importance of well-being for both mothers and children.
