Celebrating the environment and Earth Day
To mark World Environment Day and Earth Day, members of the Z and Youth Clubs of the Zonta Club of Dhaka III, Bangladesh, carried out a meaningful community initiative promoting environmental sustainability and personal well-being.
As part of the celebration, club member Abdu Tawwab Hossain Chowdhury distributed handmade paper gift bags containing a variety of vegetable seeds—including squash, pumpkin, papaya and okra—encouraging recipients to grow their own food while enhancing environmental biodiversity. Tulsi (holy basil) seeds were also included for their known health benefits, such as boosting immunity and aiding in the prevention of common illnesses.
In addition to the seed kits, beneficiaries received new clothing, sanitary materials, umbrellas, dry food items and milk. Hygiene kits included face masks, handwash and sanitary pads for women, underscoring the initiative’s focus on both health and dignity.
This outreach effort was designed not only to raise awareness about reducing plastic use and supporting cleaner communities, but also to directly improve quality of life. Follow-up visits are planned in two weeks to check on the impact of the initiative.
The club extended its appreciation to Governor Dr. Zareen Delawar, Past Governor Fahmida Karim, First Vice President Syeda Sabrina Siddique, Zontians Momtaz Choudhury and Khadiza Afzal, Z and Youth Club Chair Zontian Nusrat Haque and Zontian Faika Rahman for their support and involvement.
