Empowering women and girls through vocational training

The Zonta Club I of Colombo, Sri Lanka, partnered for a second consecutive year with the Foundation of Goodness to provide vocational skills training for women and girls.

With additional support from Care for Lanka and contributions from club members, the initiative sponsored 53 participants in a six-month training program.

The program, conducted at the Centre for Excellence in Seenigama in southern Sri Lanka, offered courses in beauty care, dressmaking, cake and pastry production, soft toy making, electrical work and information technology.

Organizers said the initiative aims to provide women and girls with practical skills that can lead to employment or entrepreneurship, helping them achieve greater independence and economic stability.

Upon completion of the program, some participants go on to start their own businesses, while others gain the skills needed to secure employment.

Twelve club members traveled from Colombo to Seenigama to meet with the beneficiaries and observe the program firsthand. Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting the positive impact of the training on their lives.

Videos featuring some of the trainees have been shared on the club’s social media platforms.
