Zonta Club of Laguna champions education, livelihood and disaster relief for community upliftment
The Zonta Club of Laguna, Philippines, continues to make a lasting impact across the province through a series of initiatives that promote inclusive education, vocational training and compassionate disaster response, each reinforcing its mission to build a better world for women and girls.
On 4 July, the club carried out the seventh leg of its School Supplies Giving Project, reaching 100 Grade 3 and Grade 4 students at Malaban East Elementary School in Biñan. Through the distribution of notebooks, pens and school bags, the club seeks to reduce barriers to learning and equip young learners with the tools they need to succeed. More than just a handout, each item served as a message of encouragement and belief in every child’s potential.
One week later, the club joined forces with the Office of Congresswoman Ann Matibag to celebrate the graduation of 199 individuals from three TESDA-accredited technical-vocational courses: Contact Center Services NC II (OLAC), Events Management Services NC II,= and Computer Systems Servicing NC II (Airsmart). The commencement recognized the achievements of the graduates—many of whom were women and underserved individuals—who are now equipped with in-demand, practical skills for employment or entrepreneurship.
Further demonstrating its commitment to community care, the Zonta club, in partnership with Congresswoman Matibag’s office, extended immediate assistance on 18 July to families affected by a landslide caused by the collapse of a riprap near a creek. Working alongside the DSWD and the Office of the Civil Defense, the team distributed cash aid, hygiene kits and essential relief goods directly to those impacted. This timely response highlighted the power of women-led, community-driven action in rebuilding lives after disaster.
