Zonta Club of Dhaka III launches projects to support women’s livelihoods and economic empowerment
The Zonta Club of Dhaka III, Bangladesh, has launched two initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities through skills development and entrepreneurship.
In the village of Modhupur, the club established the Modhubon Handicraft Training Center to support Garo women who serve as the primary earners for their families. Through the program, women receive training to create handcrafted bamboo products, including trays, lampshades and coasters.
The finished products are distributed to different districts for sale, helping transform traditional skills into sustainable income opportunities. The initiative aims to empower women while supporting their families’ well-being, including access to nutritious food, a stable home environment and education for their children.
The project currently supports approximately 300 beneficiaries and is led by project head Mrs. Rabeya, whose leadership has helped bring the initiative to life.
Led by Zontian Seleena Mustafa the “Dream Comes True” Pen Project, also known as “Paper to Power,” has been going strong. This initiative is designed to create employment opportunities through the production of pens for international markets.
The project focuses on producing pens that are exported worldwide and has already benefited more than 5,000 individuals.
