Zonta Club of Davao City II champions environment, education and youth empowerment

The Zonta Club of Davao City II, Philippines, continues to advance its mission of service and advocacy through initiatives that protect the environment, support education and empower youth.

In collaboration with the Mati Watersports Association, headed by their adviser Mr. George Plaza and residents of Amihan Beach, members participated in a coastal cleanup drive, collecting non-biodegradable waste along the shoreline. The activity aimed to promote healthier marine life and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.

The club also turned over a new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to Barangay Dahican in Mati City, Davao Oriental. Through the leadership of Barangay official Elmo Acera, Committee on Environment and Tourism, the facility will aid the community in proper waste segregation and recycling, creating cleaner surroundings and a more sustainable future.

In the belief that access to comprehensive and reliable information is essential for the growth of young minds, the club donated encyclopedias to Bayanihan Integrated School, with contributions from Vice Area Director Angelita Ang. The reference materials are intended to expand students’ knowledge beyond textbooks and help bridge gaps in learning resources, particularly in a technology-driven era.

Furthering its advocacy for youth development, the club hosted an awareness session on early pregnancy and drug abuse at Langub National High School. Attended by about 300 students and teachers, the event featured discussions aimed at raising awareness, inspiring action and safeguarding young people’s futures. Members of the Z Club of Langub National High School also played active roles in leading the program.
