Zonta District 20 Conference
Zonta International District 20, encompassing Finland and Estonia, held its annual district conference aboard a cruise ship traveling between Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden, from 3-5 October. The event was organized by the Zonta e-Club of Finland I and brought together nearly 120 Zontians for an unforgettable weekend of fellowship, leadership and advocacy.
The conference began Friday evening with a warm welcome reception and celebration of the Lisa Andström Fellowship awardees. On Saturday, members convened for the official business meeting and elections for the next biennium. Attendees included Zonta International President Salla Tuominen and liaison Margaret Akofio-Sowah.
In Stockholm, several Swedish Zontians joined for a discussion on Zonta Says NOW, following an inspiring keynote by Ph.D. Johanna Ikävalko titled “The Cold Is Getting Hotter: Climate Change in the Arctic from a Human Perspective.” Her presentation emphasized the global impact of Arctic climate change. The conference culminated in the adoption of a District 20 declaration urging immediate climate action.
Even as the sea grew stormy, members enjoyed lively discussions and a festive dinner, reinforcing the strong bonds of Zonta sisterhood. By Sunday’s end, participants disembarked energized to bring new ideas and commitments back to their clubs.
