Zonta Club of Alytus celebrates longtime friendship with “Drevinukas” school
For almost 30 years, the Zonta Club of Alytus, Lithuania, has maintained a close relationship with the Alytus “Drevinukas” kindergarten–primary school. Recently, the club congratulated the school on its 30th anniversary with a large bag of sweets, much to the delight of the children. Club President Meilė Platūkienė also delivered a congratulatory speech during the celebration.
The milestone event brought nearly 230 performers to the stage of the Alytus City Theatre, where the school community presented the performance “Columbus’s Birthday,” based on a work by Juozas Erlickas.
“‘Drevinukas’ is not just a school, not merely an institution — ‘Drevinukas’ is a cultural phenomenon,” said Artūras Čiurlionis, director of Alytus Vidzgiris School, as he congratulated the community and participants of the celebration.
Alytus City Vice Mayor Kristina Daugelevičienė also attended the event, commenting “You are a strong and large community that brings joy to our city. Continue to build and nurture it. And may the children remain just as curious and perhaps a little mischievous." She also shared news of a financial voucher and upcoming improvements to the school. Renovation work is set to begin next month and will include updates to electrical systems, ceiling repairs, an upgraded library space and the creation of a new retreat area for students.
The planned retreat space will provide children with opportunities for quiet time and sensory support. Multisensory rooms will help stimulate the senses and promote relaxation, while quiet spaces will allow students to step away from surrounding stimuli.
In recognition of initiative, creativity and the ability to unite the community, the vice mayor presented certificates of appreciation to primary school teacher Ieva Ivanauskienė and music and arts education teacher Dalia Vosylienė.
The Zonta Club of Alytus celebrates its continued partnership with the school and wishes “Drevinukas” continued success in nurturing the city, the community and future generations.
