Gratitude from Hualien
A total of 377 students from five primary and secondary schools in the Hualien region expressed their gratitude after receiving scholarships from Zonta International District 31, following a disaster that disrupted families and threatened access to education.
Through handmade cards, paper hearts and stars inscribed with their names and messages, the students shared their appreciation with those who supported them. Organizers described the artworks as symbols of a renewed “light of hope” for the children.
The scholarships were established after a dam failure in Hualien caused property damage to many families, placing students’ education at risk. District 31 mobilized quickly, raising funds to ensure the affected children could remain in school.
A foundation ambassador contributed a personal donation of NT$500,000, while clubs and members across the district provided additional financial support and volunteer efforts. In total, NT$2,030,000 was raised and distributed to the 377 students.
The club expressed appreciation to the Service Committee chair for coordinating the initiative, noting that the timely support allowed students to continue their education without interruption.
The act of collective kindness from Zonta District 31 truly embodied Zontians in Action.
