Zonta International Webinar: The Istanbul Convention
6 May 2021
Currently the Council of Europe (CoE) Istanbul Convention is in the news all over the world. The withdrawal of a state party to the Convention has sparked great concern and outrage in the international community. A setback in the joint efforts to combat violence against women and domestic violence is feared.
To learn more about the Istanbul Convention and why it is called a ground-breaking convention and the gold-standard to combat violence against women and domestic violence and to learn more about the challenges the Convention is facing, the Zonta International CoE Committee is offering a webinar specifically on the Istanbul Convention. Join the committee for this special opportunity to become more familiar with the Convention, a treaty of great impact in protecting and saving women and girls from violence, and a tool relevant for our advocacy work and the Zonta Says NO-Campaign. You will also get a brief insight on the drafting process of the Convention and the opening for signature in Istanbul in May 2011. Karin Nordmeyer and Irma Ertman, two members of the ZI CoE Committee, will talk about their personal experiences at that time.
